Legacy of Adventure: Guiding Yellowstone’s Explorers with Tales of History
the early 1900s,
Fred Richard, a pioneering figure associated with the Frost and Richard Ranch, collaborated with Buffalo Bill Cody to guide his esteemed guests through the wonders of Yellowstone Park. Their expeditions were characterized by captivating storytelling, drawing from personal experiences and deep-rooted historical insights. As one of the region's premier tour operators, Grub Steak led unforgettable Yellowstone tours, navigating rugged terrain and driving stagecoaches on journeys lasting three weeks, delivering awe-inspiring adventures amidst bone-jarring travel.
In 1980…
Bob Richard, a third-generation guide and grandson of the original founders, was given a grubstake to start his new adventure, his own tour company.
Bob owned, operated, and guided for Grub Steak for over 30 years. Grub Steak Expeditions stands as a testament to the enduring frontier ethos, blending a rich heritage with a commitment to sharing the breathtaking beauty of Yellowstone National Park. Just as historical grubstakes fueled prospectors in their quests for riches, Grub Steak Expeditions equips modern-day explorers with the knowledge, expertise, and passion for the wild. The guides inherit not only a century of familial wisdom, but also a deep connection to Yellowstone's history, wildlife, and ecosystem processes. This unique blend of historical roots and contemporary expertise ensures that every expedition with Grub Steak is a journey infused with the spirit of the American West, echoing the resilience, cooperation, and adventure that defined the region's storied past.
in 2022…
Continuing the rich legacy of Grub Steak Expeditions, the company was purchased by Rod and Suzie Tripp.
Rod, a seasoned guide with seven years of experience at Grub Steak, transitioned seamlessly into his new role as owner. With a passion for adventure and a dedication to exceptional customer service, Suzie and Rod aim to uphold the same standards of excellence and success they have demonstrated in their ten-year tenure as proprietors of Windmill Inn.
Married for over three decades, Suzie (a Wyoming native) and Rod share deep roots in Cody, Wyoming, where they first met. After relocating to California, where Rod was raised, they raised three remarkable children while Rod enjoyed a fulfilling 28-year career with the East Bay Municipal Utility District. There, he served as a Ranger Supervisor, overseeing vast expanses of open space and coaching numerous youth sports teams.
Upon their return to Suzie’s home of Wyoming, they embarked on entrepreneurial endeavors, with Rod retiring to focus on the family's ventures while Suzie established a thriving B&B business that utilizes her skills in catering and hospitality. Together, their wealth of experience and unwavering commitment to excellence ensure that Grub Steak Expeditions continues to offer unparalleled adventures and unforgettable experiences in the heart of the American West.
